When Fear & Worries Engulf You

Most of our fears are unreal. They are imagined and exaggerated in our own minds. They arise due to the challenges we face over a period of time and our perceptual helplessness to overcome them. Fear might also be vicariously learnt by observing others go through the same experience.

I would like to share TWO FUNDAMENTAL QUESTIONS that I often use myself and with my clients to overcome fear.

1. What Is In My Control and What Is Not?

If I can do something about it, I better do it to overcome the fear. But, if it is beyond my control, then Que Sera Sera
Whatever will be, will be. The Future is not mine to see. This fundamental principle of Stoic philosophy has been a very helpful tool to many of my clients in managing their fears and worries. It teaches us to embrace the unpredictability of life and accept that not everything can be in our control.

2. What's The Worst That Can Happen?

This question will help put things into perspective. It will help us realise that often the worst-case scenario as catastrophic as our imagination might have led us to believe and that we are not the first one to go through this turmoil.  So, if others have overcome it, so can we. These two questions have been tried and tested and can lead to a more rational and measured response to challenging situations. in general, a combination of mindfulness, rational thinking and self-reflection can be very powerful tools for managing fear and anxiety.its important to remember that while we cannot always control all external events we can control our response to them, and this can make a significant difference in how we experience and navigate life's challenges.

The Cornerstone of Quality Relationships

Just as trees rely on their roots for stability and nourishment, good relationships have foundations built on the cornerstones of "UNCONDITIONAL ACCEPTANCE" and trust.

Unconditional Acceptance is the cornerstone of every relationship, be it personal or professional. It celebrates our differences and solidifies our connection with others.

Unconditional acceptance is about recognising and respecting the uniqueness of each person. It's like affirming, "You have the freedom to be your true self in our relationship, just as I do. We don't have to try to change one another. We both have our own interests and are experts in our own lives. Let's mutually agree to honour where we are at this moment.

It shows the other person that the connection and relationship are more important than trying to prove who's right. It exemplifies the fallibility of each person and signifies that neither individual in the relationship should attempt to manipulate or alter the other person. Unconditional acceptance begets mutual respect. It's about being 100% accepting of the other person, no matter what they do or say.

It's very important to note that unconditional acceptance doesn't imply excusing harmful or self-centered actions. Self-respect is uncompromising and never lose yourself to find others.  At times separating the person from the behaviour helps, as does being mindful of everyone's different world view designed from their own life experiences.

Despite the inevitable differences of perspective and opinions, this foundation of unconditional acceptance in our relationships strengthens our person, makes us genuine and helps our relationships thrive.

As you move ahead, consciously work on improving your relationships by becoming the type of person for others that you've always hoped for yourself.
May you experience and practice unconditional acceptance in all your relationships.

Teachers Can Make or Mar

Teachers have the backbone of the society and have an enormous responsibility on their shoulders. AllzWellEver believes that teaching is a calling and not just a job.

Teachers can make or mar a child for life.  Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge, A teacher can strengthen the child with the life-long gift of self-confidence, resilience and emotional well-being.

Abraham Lincoln's letter to his son's school teacher aptly represents how a teacher can empower a child.

Only one teacher is enough to make a child thrive. May we have many more passionate and mindful teachers like that.

And This Too Shall Pass

When things are bad, remember
It won’t always be this way.
Take one day at a time

When things are good,remember
It won’t always be this way.
Enjoy every moment.

Because, this too shall pass.
Life is a roller-coaster ride where Change is a constant.
Whatever situation we are currently going through in life, whether
contented or miserable, is temporary and will change.

Use this wise adage as a shield on your calm days as well as your stormy days to enjoy a balanced joy ride.

Helicopter Parenting - Rein It In!

Hey, we all know that parenting is no joke...it's a big project in the works. No matter, how long you have been at this job, there is always so much more to learn.  This blog shares  insights on why and how to avoid being an overprotective or a helicopter parent.

Overprotective parenting, also known as helicopter parenting, is a style in which parents always try to be involved in all aspects of their child's life, a way to not only support but also control. Parents demonstrate a strong desire to protect their children from their perceptions of an unfair and cruel world. They try to protect their children from everything and everyone. These parents tend to be overly involved in their children's lives and micromanage their children's every move and decision.

AllzWellEver believes in "Prepare & Not Repair". This blog is not advocating to irrationally "toughen" children. It urges a secure connection that builds self-esteem and resilience in children to endure life.

AllzWellEver believes in "Prepare & Not Repair". This blog is not advocating to irrationally "toughen" children. It urges a secure connection that builds self-esteem and resilience in children to endure life.

A study examining anxiety and co-occurring behavioural symptoms in children, published in the Journal of Affective Disorders, found that "maternal overprotective parenting was significantly higher in the group of children with behavioural disorders."  Despite the parents' intention to live the best life they can offer their children, they unwittingly inflict low self-esteem and self-doubt on their children. A growing body of research shows that children of overprotective parents are risk-averse, have difficulty making decisions, and lack the resources to succeed in life. They are ill-equipped to adapt, have a very low tolerance for frustration, and break down at the first sign of a problem.

Carl Jung in his Theory of Personality poses this very potent question. Parents can ask themselves, "Am I doing this for my child, or am I really doing this for me?" While trying to micromanage, “Am I doing something that my child can manage himself?”

Let children make age-appropriate decisions. Make children responsible for their actions and aware of the consequences of their decisions. Give them lots of opportunities to learn from their mistakes and clearly communicate your unflinching support. Share your fallibility stories with them.

Support them to gain self-awareness and develop self-confidence along with emotional self-regulation. Be consistent with exhibiting your unconditional love and acceptance. Encourage them to solve problems and discuss different sides of a story. Reassess your attitude and avoid unrealistic expectations of perfection.

It's not easy, parents. So, please stay connected with your support system and seek help to improve your parenting skills. Remember to prioritise your self-care because your children learn better with their eyes.

After all, parenting is the ultimate ongoing endeavour! For more information on this topic, click the link below to watch a video. :

Change Your Self-Talk

Hey! Do you talk to yourself?  Is there anyone who doesn’t?

We all experience a constant internal monologue. Self-talk is our internal narrative to ourselves. The things we tell ourselves all the time. The words that most highly influence our feelings and actions. To promote #preventivementalhealth, Self-talk has a huge impact on our well-being.

Since the talk is our very own, WE HAVE A CHOICE !
This internal chatter can be supportive, beneficial and motivating or it could be debilitating, pessimistic and self-doubting.  We can learn to use our self-talk to our benefit.  All change begins with the realisation that we have the power to transform our life. THE CHOICE IS OURS!

Positive Self-talk can light the “can-do” fire and make radiant the rays of hope. It is an effective empirically tested stress reduction tool, free, very handy and always at our service.

To begin with, next time, when you hear a voice in your head. Ask yourself, “Does it help me or harm me?". Just asking this question is enough to become mindful. It will starve the habits that hurt you and let you choose the life that serves you. Initially, it may be difficult to break the downward spiralling self-talk, but with a little bit of alertness, you will become a pro and enjoy the immense benefits of positive self-talk.

So, when the answer is inclining towards harming you,  try these time-tested positive self-talk practices. Try Distanced Self-Talk.

Research posits that distanced self-talk reduces emotional reactivity. Addressing yourself as a third person with your name will create a distance from yourself and promote self-love, acceptance and scope for more rational thoughts. So, Ms. …., why are you sounding so pessimistic? Come on, Mr .... , you can do better!

The proof is in the pudding. Try it! Positive Affirmations

This reminds me of one of my students.  Nothing could stop her as she kept telling herself loudly, “I am the best!”, “I can do it!”, “I just love myself”, “ I will not give up” , “This too, shall pass” and much more. This habit of energising self from reaffirming dialog might appear weird to others but would keep her glad and optimistic even during stressful situations.  Encourage and listen to your positive voice in your head.

Unconditional Self-Acceptance Can't over stress on this one! As a general rule, be gentle and encouraging with yourself. If you cannot be kind with yourself, how can you expect it from others?

LOVE YOURSELF UNCONDITIONALLY. Just the way you are. There is only one of you! Kiss And Hug Yourself every day. Show consideration to self with positive words and pamper yourself from time to time. Be kind and considerate to yourself, as you would to others around you.

Self-talk breaks our reflexive habit of leaning on others during emotional down-time and instead begin to establish self-reliance and trust in self. It makes us an active
participant in our own thinking. Practice positive self-talk and enjoy the rewards.
Remember, If it is to be, it is up to me!

Schools aim to provide holistic development to their wards. Besides academics and co-curricular, schools will immensely benefit their prodigies with a very viable endeavour of inculcating emotional intelligence and adolescence education.

Our flagship programmes 360 degrees and the 4Rs programme provide a curriculum tailored for schools with year long, age appropriate SEL activities. They are designed to help young minds learn coping strategies and resilience so that they stay happy, come what may.

This need has been empirically researched by us as is seen in the recently published article in IJSR.

10 Good Morning Habits

Is Your Glass Half Full or Half Empty

Unhappiness Is Normal

Everyone seeks happiness. Some believe that they ‘should’ be happy all the time. Is that possible?

We are taught to believe that we ‘should’ be happy all the time, and yet no one can be joyful forever. Children often erroneously learn that not being happy or experiencing negative emotions is a problem, this further increases their distress. Let us understand that unhappiness is normal and it's alright to be "OK".

Humans are not designed to be happy all the time. Instead, we are designed to survive and reproduce. These are difficult challenges. So, we have to strive, seek contentment and security, fend off threats, and avoid pain as we encounter the ups and downs on our journey. Hence, myriad emotions originating from the coexistence of pleasure and pain is more real than the unattainable state of endless bliss.

Also, according to psychology, we have a "negative bias." A natural tendency to remember and value negative experiences more than positive ones. Our survival instincts have wired our brains to be wary of evil and obsessed with threats. Undesirable emotions generally require more thought and information is processed more thoroughly than positive ones, so we start thinking about them and internalizing them. Have you observed that your negative emotions, painful memories, hurtful feedback and bad impressions tend to have a lasting impact and occupy your thoughts till you consciously try to control them?

It is completely normal to feel unhappy from time to time. It happens to everyone. In fact, believing that any degree of pain is abnormal or pathological is illogical. Research shows that positive and negative emotions coexist in the brain, but sustained happiness has no biological basis.

Our emotions, like everything else in our lives, are mixed, impure, chaotic, confusing, and sometimes contradictory. Our lives are made up of emotions, from the happiest moments of delight to the darkest moments of despair and everything in between.

The normal ups and downs, the averages, are an unavoidable part of life. It is unnatural to expect only happiness and deny anything else. Temporary dissatisfaction is not a defect that needs to be addressed urgently. This fluctuation is innately humane.

Thus,  believing that we should all be happy, or that happiness is an end in itself, is irrational. Happiness is the state of mind you need to adopt and constantly work on. It needs effort and awareness to accept failures, practise gratitude, develop coping strategies to beat the blues and know what we can or cannot control. Practising unconditional acceptance of self, others and life is also highly effective.

Thus, it helps to remember that the real secret to happiness is realizing we’re not supposed to be happy all of the time.  Looking forward to have your views on this in the comments.

YES, You Can!

The opinions and assumptions that we hold on to about ourselves, other people and life is general are our beliefs. Our beliefs formed from our life experiences and interactions may strengthen or weaken us.

Although, we have no control over others and the world in general, at all times, we can have full control over ourselves. We often trick ourselves to find evidence to support all our beliefs, whether they be empowering or binding. Wisdom lies in breaking free from our own internal demons by identifying and challenging our mistaken beliefs and replacing them with more functional and helpful beliefs.

To begin with, list down all the misguided beliefs that have stopped you from reaching your potential. If you often tell yourself that I can’t, I will not be able to achieve, that I am not smart enough, not intelligent enough, that I will not be able to learn, cannot handle, not capable to do this or that, just not good enough, write them all down. This “I CAN’T” mentality boxes us up. No one is perfect. Everyone is uniquely imperfect and good enough!

By writing them down, you are making peace with yourself and getting ready to face your demons head-on!

Here's how you can free yourself from your limiting beliefs:

  • Use the STOPP Strategy, every time these illogical beliefs raise their head and affect your behaviour, thoughts or action.

  • STOP -When You have self-doubt, you fear the worst, you think you cannot. Stopp – when you feel you are getting emotionally drained. Stopp someone says that you cannot do it!

  • Take a breath – mindfulness. Slow deep breath

  • Observe yourself—self-regulate.

  • Pull back and put in perspective – thoughts are just thoughts, random flitting ideas they are not facts, think differently from different perspectives.

  • Proceed with a big smile – with faith and goal in mind.

  • Practise STOPP by working through each of the steps several times a day, every day...even when you don’t need it. Start using it whenever you become aware of that a belief is posing as a hurdle for you. Try and make it a habit!

Practise AFFIRMATIONS – What we tell ourselves is more important than what others tell us.

  • Affirmations help us address our negative self-talk. Such scripted affirmationsPractise AFFIRMATIONS – What we tell ourselves is more important than what others tell us., used throughout the day, will help you stay on track.

  • I can do this… I believe in myself.

  • I am confident and capable.

  • I will learn.

  • I will find a way to make this work.

  • I will not repeat my mistakes, but make new ones.

  • Failure makes me strong, I will try again.

  • I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL - I AM GOOD ENOUGH

  • Why don’t you take a moment to replace all your limiting beliefs with affirmations? Note these and put them in your eyes view. Practice makes it permanent.

For some, questions may work better than affirmations. By asking questions, we focus on solutions and start thinking proactively to take decisive action towards better possibilities.

  • What is the source of my belief? Is it a person or an experience?

  • Looking objectively, how true is the belief?

  • How do I grow out of this limitation?

  • By changing my perception, what I can believe instead that will be more helpful to me?

  • What thoughts, behaviour, decisions and actions will strengthen the new belief?

I understand that this isn’t easy.

Our limiting beliefs have been built over our life-time and will take a significant amount of will-power and introspection to challenge them. You will need to keep on working on yourself. But, that is the only way to grow and it will be worth it!

Attitude Of Gratitude

Gratitude : A Scientifically Proven Practice For a Happier Life

Did you know that simply being grateful makes us happy? So let us empower ourselves with a thankful heart and believe that AllzWellEver

Gratitude is a  magic pill that develops our immunity over the triumphs and trials of life. It is a natural antidepressant that activates certain neural circuits which produce the “feel-good” neurotransmitters, Dopamine and Serotonin. It gets better: The more you stimulate these neural pathways through practicing gratitude, the stronger and more automatic they become. Hebb's Law states that "neurons that fire together wire together". Practicing gratitude, over time, encourages our brains to search more consistently for constructive themes in our life instead of damaging ones, helping us water our flowers instead of weeds.

With gratitude, people can acknowledge the goodness in their lives. It also helps people connect to something larger than themselves, whether it is nature, a higher power or other people. To me, gratitude is being humble and privileged with things that I am not automatically entitled to à which means, almost everything!

Pause and ask yourself, do we have a default entitlement over anything? Didn’t the 2020 pandemic remind us of this? When you think of it, everything can be taken away in an eye’s blink. The fact that tomorrow is not guaranteed for anyone can be a strong motivator. Therefore, by expressing gratitude to everything that we are blessed with, we acknowledge our luck, gain positivity and thereby improve our well-being.

The “taking for granted syndrome" does us more harm than good. It is our tendency to switch off to the value of the good things in our lives. We often fail to appreciate the full value of our health, of the people we love, of our peace, freedom and prosperity. Not to mention the very fact that we are all alive together at this very time on the beautiful planet Earth.

We usually do learn the value of these things when they’re taken away from us – such as when we become seriously ill or when we lose touch with a close friend. At that point, we tell ourselves, “If only I were healthy again or if only my friend came back to me, then I’ll definitely be happy!” If we are fortunate enough, those good things might be returned to us again. Which is when we usually go through a honeymoon period of real appreciation. But this is usually only temporary. After a while, the taking for granted syndrome operates again, switching us off to the value of our blessings.

So how can we practice this skill mindfully?

1. Start and end each day with a “Thank you”

2. Life's little pleasures are wonderful treasures.

3. Enjoy mindfulness.

Be grateful for the gift of ‘now’. Yesterday is history and tomorrow is a mystery.

4. Thank everyone.

The quality of our life depends on the quality of our relationships. Make endearing thank-you notes for them. Find fun ways to thank your near and dear ones; bask in their smile.

5. Count your blessings

It might sound cliche! But it actually helps. Counting your blessings help them magically multiply. Try it out!

6. Get Inspired

Inspire yourself on the power of gratitude with books, stories, videos, role models and more. Why not write your own ‘Thankful’ story?

7. Write it down

Journaling a few things you are grateful for is another popular exercise. To begin with, reflect on 3 blessings every day. You may choose when and how you do it in your own way. Journaling enables you to focus on all the good things that happened to you in a given set of time.

Thank you, that's all from me on my favourite topic. Looking forward to your views too.

Are You in Charge of Yourself?

Are you in the driver seat or the passenger seat of your life? Can you get yourself back on track after a hurdle or do you blame others and your fate? or wait for miracles to happen.

The principle, Locus of Control, was coined by Julian Rotter in 1954. It is a continuous scale representing human tendency to believe that their life’s control resides internally within them, or externally with others or the situation.

Where do you see yourself on the above scale?

People with a high internal locus of control believe in their own ability to control themselves and influence the world around them. They see their future as being in their own hands and believe that their own choices lead them to either success or failure. While those with a high external locus of control believe that control over events and what other people do is them, and that they personally have little or no control over such things. Ideally, one should strive to maintain a balanced state leaning to a more internal locus.

Early on in life, I learnt the paybacks of shifting my locus of control from external to internal. I learnt that I could become the sole in-charge of my happiness and wellbeing. Kids, know that no one can provide you with free tickets to endless joy and opportunities. The only charge we can take in our life is for ourselves.

Know that everything you are today is based on your past choices. Your triumphs and trials are not due to your parents, your friends, the school or the economy. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make. Period. I know you might have heard this innumerable times and it might not seem real or easy to you. But, believe me, you are the only one who can make a real difference to yourself!

Whatever be the situation, we can choose:

  • How we respond

  • What we think and believe

  • Our interpretations and perceptions of events

  • To regain our happy state, come what may

  • What to focus our attention on

  • Memories to retain or let go

  • To control our emotions and feelings

  • Expectations from ourselves

  • To love and take care of ourselves, in and out

Yes, life is generally a struggle. Tiffs with friends, disagreements with parents, study pressure, uncertainties and expectations. But despite the outside weather, we can still mindfully choose happiness. Of course, that’s easier said than done. But I’m just making sure you’re aware that it’s possible.

Let’s see how we can develop a more balanced internal locus of control.

Know Thyself

A reality check always helps. Assess the consequences of your choice. Know your behavioural tendencies, strengths and weaknesses. Stepping outside of the present frame of mind also gives one a clearer perspective.

Get Real

It is very important to be aware what we can and cannot control. You can never control or change how others think, feel or act or their perceptions of you, but you can control your response. Remember, you alone get to choose what matters and what doesn’t.

Challenge your limiting beliefs

The power of belief cannot be over emphasized. Do read  my blog on beliefs for tips to believe that YOU CAN!

Take Responsibility

The more empowered we become in life will be determined by how much responsibility we take for ourselves. The empowered mindset is one that is more internally locused, where we have taken full responsibility for ourselves, our imperfections and our setbacks. We have developed a sense of self-evaluation and self-critic enabling us to know our capabilities. Such awareness brings humility and clarity of direction.

Apna Time Aayega!

This too will pass! Sometimes letting go of something is wise. When tides are high, we may have to wait patiently and lie low.

Be Mindful

To make a wise and beneficial choice, we need to be aware of our thoughts, behaviour and choices. Start by practising a mindful minute.

Act it – Make it – Become It

Act it till you make it and you become it. Try giving a big smile, a loud laugh and a tight hug to yourself. Watch your emotions change when you strike a power pose.

Inspirations

Connect with others and share. Our loved ones do influence us. Get inspiration from role-models having a well-developed internal locus of control.

This is a vital life skill, my dear students. I hope you all achieve a consistent life-balance, leading to a more engaged, empowered and emotionally responsible state.

You may contact me on this blog and we can have sessions where we can work towards a more empowered state.

SMART GOALS

Goals! Why should we have goals? Does it really matter…

Well, actually it does. We are hard-wired to pursue our needs and wants. Setting and achieving healthy goals is essential to our well-being. Planning and striving towards healthy goals expresses that one is in the driving seat of their life.

“The best way to get ahead in life is to arm yourself with specific intent, a clear vision, a detailed plan of action and the ability to maintain personal clarity.”

Only a one step away from where we want to be!

To achieve anything, we have to take full responsibility for what it is that we want to achieve. Remember to always work from your strengths and drop the extra baggage of  unhelpful limiting beliefs. Try to be open to challenges, hard-work, reflection, learning- unlearning and change. After all, there is no growth without some tinkering and discomfort! Isn’t it? Think about it! Remember, that how we are today is not a constant, our growth mindset will lead us towards our goal.

Affirmations Actually Work

Affirmations are very effective. If your goal is that is that you do not want something - put it in the affirmative and focus on that. Whatever we tend to focus on, our thoughts follow and so we lean on to that, eventually making it our reality.

For instance, “I do not want to get a shouting from my mum” can be replaced with affirmation of “I want mum to accept and understand me as I am!”

It is wiser to evaluate the credibility of your set goal, checking how SMART is it! If your desired goal is not SMART, better rethink and question yourself!

MEASURABLE– Can you actually quantify your progress in your journey? By designing your very own success measure, you gain a sense of direction and drive.

ACHIEVABLE – Do you have control over the goal? Do you really believe that it is can be accomplished? Are you ready to face the hurdles in the way?

RELEVANT – Does the goal really worth it? What difference will it make to you either ways? Unless, it is very inter-connected with your values, need, vision and passion, it will eventually lose steam and stop motivating you.

TIMELY – Every goal needs deadline, something that motivates you to apply force and practice self-discipline. Always anchor it in a plausible time frame.

Although not easy, this is worth the trouble! Write your SMART goals and, more importantly, review and revise them, you will make conscious choices that will lead you to success.  You will experience greater confidence as you watch your desired goals unfold in your life.

Try out this Action Planning Template or anything similar. If you want to badly achieve your goals, you will!

“People without a meaningful vision for their future are like leaves blowing around in the wind - indecisive and inconsistent in all their ways”-Kain Ramsay

I truly believe that you can achieve your goals once you put your heart and mind to it. So, tell me, what one thing can you do today that will move you a step closer to your goal?

Go for it, my champions!

YOUR GOAL IN JUST ONE WORD?

Without further ado, think of your goal in just a word or two. What do you really want to achieve? It can be anything small or huge; the only criteria being the goal should REALLY make a difference to you. This vision cannot be what you think other people want you to do, or even what you 'think' is just a good idea. It should be something you believe in and must resonate with you and in turn inspire you.

Ensure a time limit. Goals are your desires made precise with a tagged deadline - one that can be immediate, short- or long-term. Picture it as vividly as you can by writing it, drawing it, talking it out to your near ones or maybe singing it out aloud. Try to be as clear about it as you can.

Growth Mindset

You and I are always a “work in progress”. There is always some room for improvement because what and how we are today is never a constant. There is nothing that we cannot learn or unlearn for the choice to change is ever-present.

Take a moment to ask yourself this: Is there a big difference between your current state and where you actually want to be?

Know, that we are just one step away from taking the first step and making a difference to ourselves.

Mindsets are just beliefs. You can change your mind about your beliefs. Are you of the growth mindset or the fixed mindset? On which side of the fence do you generally find yourself? When you face a challenge or a setback, do you let it be and give up? Or do you make an effort to overcome it?

It’s never this or that!

As I read more on mindset, my false belief of having a growth mindset throughout life fell apart. There have been many times when I have floundered. There is always so much to learn and improve on.

No one can be on the growth path forever. So if you generally are, but at times feel like you’re struggling or getting stuck on a plateau, an unrecognised fixed mindset could be the reason.  The important thing is to know that you have a choice and the control to take a turn  is in your hands.

If you are willing to self-reflect and put in mindful effort to make a difference for yourself, here are a few tips.

Be self-aware

To change your mindset, you have to be able to identify the situations that trigger a fixed mindset and observe when you're falling into it. What stops you from your ideal self? In which situation does your fixed mindset become an issue? (For instance, trying something new, making friends, attempting to change a behaviour, or developing a skill).

Accept Fear and Uncertainty

It might be a fear of failure #failureasfriend, a fear of looking stupid, or a fear of being judged, but fear is always what holds us back from reaching more of our potential. Unacknowledged fear lies behind a fixed mindset. Welcome it and let it pass. Remember that it is just an emotion, and that sharing them with your trusted ones can also help.

Refute the fixed mindset voice

The fixed mindset is a limited and misinformed viewpoint. Challenge it with your new growth mindset knowledge.

I sometimes find it helpful to write out these dialogues in my journal. There is something about writing that makes it easier for me to connect with these inner voices. You decide what works best for you! Talking to a true friend works wonders too.

Choose Wisely

You can interpret these voices in two different ways:

Challenges, setbacks, and criticism can be a sign that you have fixed talent and abilities.

Or they can indicate that you need to challenge yourself, step up your effort, change your strategies and continue to develop.

The former is obviously the fixed mindset; the latter is oriented towards growth. The key here is to move out of the restraints of judgement (fixed) and into the arena of growth. After all, these mindsets are just beliefs. You can make your mind believe for your good.

Learn to hear your fixed mindset voice

What does your inner saboteur say to you in an attempt to keep you from putting forth the effort? Approaching a new challenge, the voice might say, “Are you sure you can do it?” or “What if you fail?” After hitting an obstacle, you might hear, “If only you had talent,” or “I told you it was too risky.” In the face of criticism, the voice says, “It’s not my fault,” or “Who do they think they are?”

All of us have met the inner saboteur. It’s the voice that undermines so much of what we do; the inner critic that judges us and our work. The inner saboteur reminds us about our limiting beliefs. Anticipate this voice and identify it!

Take growth mindset actions

I sometimes find it helpful to write out these dialogues in my journal. There is something about writing that makes it easier for me to connect with these inner voices. You decide what works best for you! Talking to a true friend works wonders too.

Stay flexible, mindful and adapt

Any change needs patience and faith. If you’re not making progress with your effort, this doesn’t mean anything about your capability. Sometimes a new approach helps.

Ask yourself  questions from time to time.

  • Do I know the outcome or goal I’m after? What do I seek? How does it look like?

  • What information can I gather? And from where?

  • Where can I get constructive feedback?

  • Do I have a plan? What, How, When and Where of the plan?

  • Is my current learning strategy working? If not, how can I change it?

  • What did I try hard at today?

  • What habits must I develop to continue the gains I’ve achieved?

Your questions determine your focus and greatly influence your reality. You will observe options opening up for you as you ask more growth-minded questions.

Remember, we are only one step away from where we want to be. With willpower, effort and perseverance, we can!

Beat The Blues

Hi! It’s perfectly natural to feel down and sad sometimes. Everyone gets the blues. Without going into the "why” of it, let us work out ways to accept and beat the blues.

As you are all aware, https://www.allzwellever.com/ aims to encourage a growth mindset with an attitude of resilience and persistence in the young to face “come-what-may”. Remember that the remote of your life is in your hand; that you are the master of your life.

When the present looks challenging and sad, do remember that “This too shall pass!"

So without further ado, I am sharing my happiness strategies with you. They might look obvious but each one has the power to uplift you. I pray that they click with you too!

Love Yourself

Loving self is a primary prerequisite of well being. Accept and love yourself unconditionally for all you have been, all you are and all you will be.

Reach out

Reaching out to people helps.  Studies show that positive social ties significantly protects health and happiness. Consciously work towards strengthening quality relationships. Keep in touch with friends, explore volunteering opportunities or engage in learning something new. If it is just too difficult, please don't hesitate reaching out to a therapist.

Pamper yourself by doing what you enjoy.

Every once in a while, give yourself some self-care and pampering. Do what you really like to and unwind.

Smile and laugh

Have you tried to fake it, till you make it, till you believe in it? The next time you feel low, try putting your hands up in the air and strike a power pose. Or give yourself your big smile and laugh out loud. Observe your body fooling your mind in making you feel better.

Get Moving

Walk, run, dance, skip, jump! Try out some happiness-inducing workouts! Our physical body and mind have a strong connection, so taking care of one will have a positive effect on the other. For me, a long walk and music is what helps.

A dose of gratitude with a cup of positivity is the magic pill

Trying to think optimistically, even during down times is a worthwhile practice. Try counting your blessings and feel the magic of gratitude. Start by listing all things that you appreciate in your life. The results may surprise you.

Stay In The Moment

Easily said than done! Staying mindful needs conscious practice. But, once this habit is developed, past and future anxieties will fade. We can observe our transient thoughts, emotions and sensations and not be led by them. Research suggests that mindfulness creates a shield against stress and strengthens the areas of the brain governing emotions.

Write it down

Writing is my catharsis. Journaling helps me clear my thoughts and is my forever go-to habit.

I would love to hear from you about your happiness strategies. Before leaving the post, do take some time and list them down.

It would be great if you can share them in the comments. I shall be adding them up in the blog down the line so that others can benefit from it as well.

Funnily Fundamentally Fallible

Hi! Kindly excuse my fallibility of not posting for a really long time. I accept and acknowledge my failing; my innate tendency to err.

In today’s post, I want to share the inborn nature of human fallibility, why should one accept fallibility in themselves, others and life, and how to make the most of it. It's about #failureasfriend This awareness made me feel lighter and I hope you will feel the same too.

Inevitable Fallibility

Everyone makes mistakes. Research posits that ignorance and ineptitude are the two major sources of fallibility. Ignorance can be reduced with scientific knowledge and ineptitude with training and technology.

However, there is a third source of error that one cannot overcome called necessary fallibility. That is, we will never have complete knowledge of the universe. That no matter how vast scientific knowledge becomes and how rapidly technology advances, we humans will not understand every aspect of life and there will always be some degree of uncertainty. Uncertainty is inevitable in life and fallibility follows uncertainty.

Accepting and keeping a sense of fallibility in self, others & life is liberating

Since it is a distinctively human characteristic, wisdom prevails in accepting and acknowledging one’s own mistakes. It is not smart to confess our fallibility and not do anything about it. Having gained awareness, we apologise to ourselves and others, learn from it and move forward armed with the knowledge and intent of not repeating the same mistake. Of course, new ones are most welcome! So, yes although we can address our ignorance and ineptitude, as we move on in life, we can recognise and acknowledge our fallibility, no need to hide and ignore it, see it as it is, “a fundamental fact of human existence”.

Expecting others and ourselves to not make mistakes, and manage tasks & life perfectly is unreasonable.

Everyone is fallible

Everyone is fallible including parents, teachers, experts and role models. Every human makes mistakes, due to their varying levels of knowledge and ineptitude and the fathomless capacity of necessary fallibility. When we fail to recognise fallibility in others, we put them on a pedestal and get distressed when they make mistakes. It will be helpful to humanise the people we interact with, to accept and understand their fallible nature as we see ours. Understand that others may misinterpret, misperceive and err at times. Learn from it, forgive and move on.

We have been making mistakes for thousands of years and while we can become better, we will never become perfect.

So, embrace fallibility, learn from it and keep on making new mistakes.
Remember, everyone is a fallible being.

Advocating Preventive Mental Health Education In Schools

AllzWellEver believes in #preventivementalhealth. We are very passionate about the indispensable need to equip young minds with emotional intelligence. Children can be taught responsibility and self-regulation of their thoughts, feelings and behaviour. The earlier the better. This will empower them with equanimity in their daily dealings.

The theme for 2023, "Mental Health Is a Universal Human Right," underscores the fundamental importance of mental well-being for everyone.

Despite awareness, misconceptions linger, leading people to believe that only visible issues matter. This blog challenges this notion, urging individuals not to shy away from seeking professional help when needed. Mental health deserves the same attention as physical health, and this journey requires ongoing effort.

The FAB Way to Tackle Exam Stress-Anxiety

Everyone faces stress during examinations. Pressure to do well in any test orexam can be overwhelming and may affect your mental health.

Unfortunately, our school education system is extremely performance-driven, it underminesthe well-being of the very students it strives to empower. It is normal to feel a bit anxious about exams, especially if they're under pressure from school or family or self- endowed.
Do give a glance at this blog for #preventivementalhealth, if it's all getting a bit too much.

Find Your Sweet Spot

Some stress is good and it motivates and propels us to prepare well. Stress in the right amount is required for our progress. But, then if not handled with care, it may incapacitate.

Here, the many ways to beat exam stress anxiety may help to find your sweet spot that keeps you positively charged up.

But I am delving a little deeper and addressing the issue at a psychologicallevel in this post with the acronym FAB, inspired by all you FABulouschampions!

Rethink Failure

Why is failure considered a foe? It is inevitable, certainly a very dear friend and a very effective teacher. We learn more from failures than from our success stories. Schools and parents must celebrate and encourage mistakes and failures. How can we learn and grow withoutchallenges and setbacks? We learn from our mistakes and then make new ones to further our learning journey.

Problem is that we tie failure to our sense of self-worth, self-esteem and self- acceptance, instead of considering it as a ladder to achieve our goal. If all successful people, whom you consider your role models now, would have given up after a couple of failures, would you have ever heard of them? No failure can ever define you! Embrace Failures To Learn & Grow. CHILL!

Being Aware of Self & Situation

Most things worth having entail sacrifice and effort. So, if you want to do well in your examinations, just do what you can and give it your best shot. Also, being aware of what you can and cannot control is such a relief. Take a moment and think of what's in your control.

Mindfulness In Daily Life: Nurturing Inner Peace and Clarity

What is that one thing within you that can both ground you in the present moment and release you from the burdens of the past and future?
The answer lies in the practice of mindfulness.

In the rush of life, finding calm can seem like a distant dream. Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) has emerged as a transformative practice for those seeking solace from the daily whirlwind.
Mindfulness simply is just awareness of the present moment. Being fully present unlocks a trove of inner peace and clarity. Be Where You Are, Otherwise You Will Miss Your Life!

While mindfulness is a familiar concept, few incorporate it into their daily routines. We all know what we should do, but the hard part is actually doing it. The good news is that mindfulness can seamlessly become a part of our everyday routine. Research has emphasized the significant advantages of MBSR, showing its capacity to lower stress and enhance emotional control. Studies indicate that consistent mindfulness practice can notably alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. Additionally, neuroscience research has noted shifts in brain activity associated with improved focus, emotional control, and heightened resilience among mindfulness practitioners.

Did you know that just ten minutes of mindfulness a day can positively impact your mental and emotional well-being? Therapists highly recommend the MBSR technique, where mindfulness becomes the key to unlocking a calmer and more resilient mind. Even brief mindfulness sessions have been linked to decreased stress hormones, improved mood, and enhanced cognitive function. Think of it as a pocket-sized tool for inner peace and balance that can be accessed anytime, anywhere.

Integrating MBSR into your daily routine is achievable and enjoyable. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to mindful habits, and it's important to find what works best for you. Begin with small steps at a consistent time each day and be patient with yourself as these habits take time to develop. Like anything worth it, it needs focus and practice. You will feel calm and at peace only if you consistently practice it for at least a month.

Can’t you spare just 10 minutes a day for your well-being?

So, how do we practice mindfulness every day? Some ways to do so are:

  • Set a reminder to pause and practice mindful breathing for a couple of minutes during the day.
  • Immerse yourself in one enjoyable task daily, such as a mindful walk or engaging in mindful art. Engage in mindful activities like mindful dance or yoga, paying attention to your body's sensations and movements.
  • Slow down and savor each bite during meals, focusing on the textures and flavors.
  • Dedicate time for formal mindfulness practice in a peaceful space, using techniques like body scan meditation.
  • Notice and appreciate the details of your surroundings, from nature's colors to people's expressions.
  • Listen attentively during conversations, showing genuine interest in others' words and body language.
  • Cultivate a daily gratitude practice, reflecting on even the smallest things to be thankful for.
  • Practice self-compassion by treating yourself with kindness and understanding, acknowledging your struggles.
  • Create a calming bedtime routine with mindful meditation, reflecting on the day's blessings and challenges.

Within the stillness of mindfulness lies the key to unlocking a world of inner peace and resilience.

Incorporating these practices into your routine can help you cultivate mindfulness, reduce stress, and foster a greater sense of inner calm and well-being. Start with small steps and gradually integrate these practices into your life to experience the profound benefits of MBSR firsthand.

The practice of MBSR unveils a world where inner peace and well-being become tangible realities within reach. As we delve into the mysteries of the mind through mindfulness, we discover that the key to a more serene and fulfilling life has been within us all along.

All your power resides in the now. Mindfulness is the best tool to tap you into that power.

A Formula for a Happy, Healthy, Self-Contained Life

Living a long, healthy life isn't just about good luck. It's about forming good habits and sticking to them.
Dr. Dan Buettner's exploration of Blue Zones, communities boasting a high number of centenarians, unveils invaluable insights that are pertinent to our community, where the median age is 60. These insights, focusing on wise nutrition, natural movement, robust social engagement, and a positive outlook, serve as the keys to the exceptional well-being observed in Blue Zone inhabitants.

Dr. Buettner's extensive research has identified four primary areas that contribute to the exceptional longevity witnessed in Blue Zone communities:

  • Eating Wisely: Mindful consumption of a balanced diet rich in nuts, beans, fruits, and vegetables, combined with the practice of stopping eating when 80% full.

  • Moving Naturally: Regular engagement in low-intensity physical activities, such as taking the stairs or walking, to promote overall well-being

  • Belonging – Prioritizing Loved Ones: Emphasizing the quality of relationships and social connectedness as essential elements for a fulfilling life

  • Downshifting: Slowing down the pace of life to manage chronic inflammation and related diseases effectively.

Eating Wisely

Balancing our love for indulgent treats with a focus on incorporating more nutritious elements like nuts, beans, fruits, and vegetables can make a significant impact on our well-being. Additionally, adopting the practice of mindful eating, accompanied by a glass of red wine and shared moments with loved ones, can further enhance our health.

Moving Naturally

Beyond dietary changes, introducing regular, low-intensity physical activities into our daily routine can contribute to improved balance, injury prevention, and overall physical well-being. The goal is to engage in 30 minutes of enjoyable physical activity at least five times a week.

Belonging – Prioritizing Loved Ones

Recognizing the profound impact of positive relationships on our lives, especially as we age, emphasizes the importance of social connectedness. Whether through shared meals, conversations, or virtual connections, fostering togetherness with family and friends contributes significantly to our overall health.

Downshifting

The significance of slowing down cannot be overstated. By incorporating leisurely breaks, enjoying favorite music, practicing meditation, and effectively managing time to reduce stress, we can positively influence our overall well-being. A lesson from the Blue Zone suggests, "Life is short. Don't rush so much that you miss it."

Finding Your Purpose

Understanding the 'why' in our lives and discovering a sense of purpose are paramount for longevity and vibrancy. Whether through simple joys or deeper contributions to societal change, having a clear life goal correlates with a longer and more fulfilling life.

Having Faith

Lastly, incorporating faith into our lives is a powerful contributor to health and happiness. Research indicates that regular prayers or visits to places of worship can positively impact lifespan, lower rates of cardiovascular disease, depression, stress, and suicide, and enhance the functioning of the immune system.

While these practices may seem like common knowledge, the crucial question remains—how consistently are we implementing them in our lives? The wisdom derived from Blue Zone communities encourages us to make mindful choices today for a longer and happier life.

The key lies in the consistency of our actions, and through collective inspiration, let's embark on a journey toward enhanced well-being, drawing insights from these extraordinary communities.

The Expectation Trap Be Wary of Expectations That Can Ruin Your Happiness

"Why did expectations break up with reality? Because it couldn't live up to the ideal!"

Ever wondered if our expectations are actually good for us? It's a tricky line to tread, as they can either lift us up or bring us crashing down. Let's take a closer look at what psychology says about our expectations and how we can handle them better.

We all have expectations; those hopes that keep us going. They're like strong beliefs that things will happen or turn out a certain way. But be careful, because sometimes these expectations can really mess with our happiness. Think back to that time when you were expecting something, but it just didn't happen. Maybe you were hoping for your child's attention, a kind gesture from a friend, or some recognition at work. When things don't match up with our hopes, it can leave us feeling pretty low.

Expecting life to always turn out the way we want is a dangerous game, because, truth be told, life doesn't always go our way. And when we're let down by others not meeting our expectations, it can lead to a lot of disappointment and frustration.

Let's steer clear of these expectations that are recipes for misery:

  • Life should always be fair.
  • Everyone should agree with me or like me.
  • Others should understand me.
  • I should succeed in everything I do.
  • Certain things will make me super happy.
  • I can totally change other people.

Psychology tells us to set achievable goals and be open to different outcomes. Even, the teachings of the Geeta remind us of the importance of action without attachment to the outcomes. It emphasizes the need to embrace the present moment with equanimity.

One way to look at it is this: our happiness grows when we accept things for what they are and lower our expectations. Instead of fixating on perfectly desired outcomes, it's all about making progress and understanding that it's okay to slip up now and then. Practicing gratitude can really help too. Taking a moment to be thankful for the good things in life gives us a break from always wanting more and helps us appreciate what's already there.

Research even shows that managing expectations can make us feel better. According to a study in the Journal of Positive Psychology, people who show kindness to themselves and keep their expectations real experience less stress and more happiness.

So remember, as Denis Waitley says, "Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised." Balancing our expectations and finding joy in the little things can bring us more peace and happiness.

Take a moment today to be thankful for what you've got and give yourself a pat on the back for all the effort you put in. You really do deserve it! Let go of those expectations and find something to be happy about, even when things don't quite go as planned. It's the key to finding peace instead of frustration.

"I do my thing and you do your thing. I am not in this world to live up to your expectations, and you are not in this world to live up to mine."

Don’t Let Anger Flip Your Lid

Ever felt so furious that it felt like your head might actually explode? You're not alone!

Anger is that invited fiery friend. In a recent survey, almost 85 percent of people admitted to feeling angry at least once a week. However, this common emotion can become problematic if not handled effectively.

One constructive way to deal with anger is through the "Flipping Your Lid" theory by Daniel Siegel, a renowned neuropsychiatrist. It outlines the moment when intense emotions, particularly anger, overwhelm the rational brain (prefrontal cortex), resulting in impulsive and regrettable actions. Envision your brain as a complex control center. When anger flares, the amygdala, a tiny almond-shaped structure deep within, takes center stage as the brain's alarm system, triggering the fight-or-flight response. Remarkably, during anger, the prefrontal cortex, responsible for rational thinking, decides it's break time. This paves the way for the notorious "amygdala hijack," where the emotional, impulsive part of the brain (amygdala) seizes control from the rational part (prefrontal cortex). It's akin to a kid grabbing the television remote, causing a circuit overload that prompts us to "flip our lid" and react impulsively. This phenomenon is at the core of many regrettable actions and words spoken in the heat of the moment.

Now, how do we avoid flipping our lid during moments of anger?

As, the Greek philosopher, Epictetus wisely noted,
"We cannot choose our external circumstances, but we can always choose how we respond to them."

It starts with awareness. Recognizing signs of anger – increased heart rate, raised voice, tense muscles, or a surge in adrenaline – acts as an early warning system. For some, it might be irritability, furrowed brows, avoidance, or restlessness.

Next, adopt a "time-out" strategy. Give your brain the chance to cool down before reacting. According to author and public speaker Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, ninety seconds is all it takes to identify an emotion and let it dissolve as you notice it. When stressed, pausing for ninety seconds and labeling what you're feeling (e.g., "I'm getting angry") calms the amygdala. MRI studies show that this "emotion labeling" calms the brain region involved in angry outbursts, helping you regain control. Dr. Bolte explains: Just pause by taking deep breaths, sipping water, counting to ten, or stepping away temporarily.

Whether you feel angry or not, practice mindfulness techniques to stay present and focused. Engaging in preventive activities promoting relaxation, like deep breathing exercises, journaling, sharing with loved ones, or a brisk walk, helps dissipate the intense energy tied to anger. Identify your own coping strategy to manage anger proactively, and don't let it control you!

While anger is an inherent part of our human experience, mastering the art of “not flipping our lid” is within our grasp. By understanding the brain's intricate dance during anger and implementing practical strategies, we can navigate the storm of emotions with grace and maintain our mental equilibrium.

So while anger is our rowdy roommate, keeping your cool is totally doable. Understand the brain dance, throw in some cool-down strategies, and soon you'll be the Zen master of your emotions.Remember, even our brains need a break!
